Thursday: The American Legion Post 71 Meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Post, 114 N. 1st Street, Cabot. Pre-meeting meal will be at 6pm. All members and spouses are welcome to come. All ladies may join and/or attend the Auxiliary meeting. Daughters can join the Junior Auxiliary. If you are a Veteran and are interested in joining or a son of a Veteran, come on by. If you are a motorcycle rider, we have a Legion Riders Chapter, too. Monday: The Lower White River Museum State Park in Des Arc is hosting a free environmental education teacher workshop from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Participants will receive training in two internationally recognized environmental education programs – Project Learning Tree and Project WET. These programs provide respected and proven environmental education curricula that are approved by the Arkansas Department of Education and TAPP Registry for 6 hours of professional development credit. Tuesday: The Wade Knox Children’s Advocacy Center will present a Call To Action for Suicide and Bullying Prevention – “Whispers To Wisdom.” from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Lonoke Assembly of God Church at 1763 SW Front Street, Lonoke. The event will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn from a distinguished panel of professionals on the subjects. Greg Adams – Arkansas Children’s Hospital Center for Good Mourning, Mary Meacham – Arkansas Chapter for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Dr. Cathy Staton – Trauma Focused Licensed Therapist, Steven Blackwood – Strategic Consultant, Suicide Loss Survivor & Grass Roots Prevention Advocate, Senator Eddie Joe Williams and Lonoke County Prosecuting Attorney Chuck Graham. A question and answer session will allow attendees to address the panelists. Keynote Lunch Speaker will be First Lady Susan Hutchison. There will also be educational resources offered by Methodist Behavioral Hospital, Pinnacle Point, and Professional Counselling Associates. There is no charge to attend the event and lunch will be provided. Oct. 7: Annabelle’s Anthem benifit dinner and silent action will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the St. Rose Parish Hall in Carlisle. Annabelle is the daughter of Trey and Lindy Hearn, who was recently diagnosed with ALL, a form of leukemia. Lindy is a sixth grade teacher at Carlisle Public Schools and Trey is a manager at Keo Fish Farm. Annabelle began treatment July 21, and will continue receiving treatment for the next two years. The public is invited to support the family in an evening of dinner, dancing and fun. Dinner will be catered by Harlan Caviness and Chuck Brown.
