On Saturday, Oct. 27 at 5 a.m., the Derden family of Austin awoke to the smell of something burning in their home.
According to a family friend, Ray Derden checked, but saw nothing. Then the fire alarms starting going off all through the house. Ray told his wife, Lynn and a young child staying with them, to get dressed and get out of the house. Ray, Lynn and the neighbor girl got out safely, but the mobile home was a total loss.
According to the family friend, fire trucks arrived within 15 minutes, the house was engulfed in flames.
