Maumelle Library hosts workshops

The Maumelle Library, a branch of the Central Arkansas Library System, is having a summer-long reading club that is free.

Activities will be held Monday through Thursday at the library. The tentative schedule is:

• Ages 9-12: Mondays at 10:30 a.m.

• Ages 6-8: Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.

• Ages 3-5: Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.

• Ages 0-36 months: Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Reunion time for Class of ’87

The 25-year reunion of the Cabot High School class of 1987 will be Saturday at Rolling Hills County Club in Cabot.

Pool Side Cuties contest is back

The Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday is again hosting the Mr. and Miss Pool Side Cutie Contest at Splash Zone.

In case of inclement weather, it will be held at the Jacksonville Community Center.

The contest is for children 1 year to 5 years old.

Healthy Kids Week coming to Panera

The Panera Bread in North Little Rock on Monday will host a Healthy Kids Week.

The seminar will start at 2 p.m. and will feature firefighters from the North Little Rock Fire Department, who will teach bicycle safety in the "Go Slow Whoa" program.

The seminar is free and children, suggested ages are 10 and under, who attend will receive a goody bag and be entered into a drawing for a free bike helmet.

Adults who bring children will get a free loaf of bread.

Golf tournament to be in NLR

The Salvation Army of Central Arkansas will have its second annual golf tournament Monday at the Burns Park Golf Course.

The entry fee is $115 per person or $400 for a team of four. All proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund.

Lit conference to be in NLR

The 12th International Conference on the Short Story in English will start June 27 in North Little Rock June 27 at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel.

The conference is for both local and international writers.

Roundtables and workshops will be among the events.

Registration is $300 for adults and $200 for students.
