Christmas Road to Bethlehem, perhaps one of Lonoke County’s largest community Christmas displays, begins this week.

Organizer Jerry Nipper announced that Bethlehem Road residents will light 32 displays of the biblical account of the birth of Jesus through the rest of December. The displays will be lighted from dusk to 11 p.m. daily.

Scheduled programs will be held at 6 p.m., at Bethlehem United Methodist, 2540 Bethlehem Road, in central Lonoke County. Performances will be: Wednesday, Dec. 12, Glen and Leanne Pool; Thursday, Dec. 13, the Hallelujah Harmony Quartet; Friday, Dec. 14, Hickory Hill Bluegrass Band, from Beebe; Saturday, Dec. 15, the Gospel Tones from Jacksonville; and Sunday, Dec. 16, the Bull Creek Boys from Floyd.

From Cabot, Austin and Ward, there are two suggested routes to Bethlehem Road:

1 – From the intersection of Arkansas Highways 89 and 321: follow Mt. Carmel Road/Arkansas Highway 321 about five miles east to Highway 321 spur, then three miles on 321 spur to the junction with Arkansas Highway 31, turn left, Bethlehem Road is about a quarter mile on the right; or,

2 – From the junction of Arkansas Highway 38 with Highway 367 between Cabot and Austin: follow Arkansas Highway 38 east about about eight miles to the intersection with Arkansas Highway 31, turn south (right) on Highway 31, Bethlehem Road will be on the left, about two miles from the Highway 31/38 intersection.

From Lonoke, at the intersection U.S. Highway 70 and Arkansas Highway 31 (at the Lonoke Depot), follow Highway 31 north about 12 miles; Bethlehem Road will be on the right, about a mile past (north) of Woodlawn.

From Beebe, follow Arkansas Highway 31 south, Bethlehem Road will be on the left, about two miles past (south) the Highway 31/38 intersection.

Bethlehem UMC is about two miles east of Arkansas Highway 31 on Bethlehem Road.

"Come celebrate the Christmas Story with us. Refreshments will be served each night in our new Fellowship Hall," Nipper said. There is no charge, he said.
