Actions in Lonoke County Circuit Court include a kidnapping charge stemming from a disagreement in an apparent drug deal, and prison time for a fifth-offense of driving while intoxicated.

Caleb J. Hales, 22, of Beebe, was charged with kidnapping following a Nov. 22, 2012, incident in an apparent drug deal that was not satisfactory. Hales also faces charges including aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and criminal use of a prohibited weapon.

According to the affidavit, for several months Hales had traded with Waylon Arnold, 32, in an agreement of marijuana for methamphetamine. In November, Arnold complained to Hales that what he had received "Was not any good," and agreed to meet to be given, "Some more meth to make it up to him."

At the meeting, Hales and one other person got into Arnold’s car, and then "Rolled some of the marijuana and passed it around."

Hales is noted to have said that he and the other person then "pulled guns" on Arnold and forced him to "drive around."

Hales said he remembered, "Getting into the driver’s seat and driving around for while." But, he added that had "taken some pills" and does fully remember what took place after taking over the driving.

Hales was stopped Nov. 26, 2012 by Cabot police after an unrelated altercation in Pulaski County. In the process of the stop, Hales was found in possession of a stolen handgun and a "sawed off" shotgun.

James Thomas Davis, 33, of Cabot, accepted a plea agreement in a charge of fifth-offense Driving While Intoxicated, a felony.

According to the affidavit, Davis was seen driving along Oak Meadows Drive and had pulled into a driveway in an apparent attempt to hide from officers.

Information from the Arkansas Crime Information Center showed that Davis’ license was suspended.

Davis failed field sobriety tests but refused to submit to a breath test at the police department.

The plea agreement calls for 72 months in the Arkansas Department of Correction, with 36 months suspended leaving 36 months to serve. It also levies $300 court costs, $20 booking fee, $45 jail support fee, $250 DNA fee, $900 fine and four years driver’s license suspension.
