The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA) extends an invitation to all Arkansas eighth through tenth grade students to the first ASMSA Humanities Day, a focus on language and culture, 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Humanities Day is modeled after the ASMSA Science and Engineering Institutes that attract students from throughout the state, Donnie Sewell, ASMSA public information specialist, said in a press release.

Humanities Day activities will be on the ASMSA campus, 200 Whittington Ave., Hot Springs. Students will take part in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese Language/International Culture classes.

There is no charge for the classes.

The classes will give exciting introductions to both languages, teach basic phrases and will engage students in activities that tell of the cultures served by the languages, Sewell said.
