State, county and city officials gathered Monday at the Lonoke Flag Plaza for a ceremonial groundbreaking of the construction of the Interstate 40 - Arkansas Highway 89 interchange; wet, muddy conditions prevented the ceremony being held at the construction site. Lonoke mayor Wayne McGee remarked on the 15-year effort to make the $7.9 million project, opening access to the city’s industrial zone and the promise of economic opportunity, a reality.
