The public works committee in a special meeting held Tuesday evening approved Mayor Bill Cypert’s recommendation to accept the bid offer of IESI Inc. for the city household trash pickup.

With the current service by Waste Management of Arkansas set to expire Aug. 1, the service was opened for competitive bidding, Cypert said. The bid by IESI of $17.90 per household was recommended by Cypert; current rates are $15.50.

All the rates would have gone up, Cypert said after the meeting. Much of the consideration of IESI was improvement of service, he said.

IESI representative Mickey Stumbaugh said IESI would run the service Monday through Friday, omitting only Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year.

The committee approved recommending the contract for City Council consideration at the June 18 meeting.
