Learn how volunteering with, or supporting, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Lonoke County (CASA) can make a year-round difference at the CASA Giving Day Holiday Open House, 3 p.m. - 8 p.m., Nov. 21, at the CASA office, 119 W. Front St. (U.S. Highway 70), Lonoke (across from the Lonoke Depot).

The work of CASA makes a difference not just during the holidays but any time of the year, executive director Delyce Palik said in a press release. Lonoke County CASA trains volunteers to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children being sheltered in the child welfare system.

Lonoke County residents are invited to discover new delight in the season with the joys of giving back, Palik said. CASA volunteers and members of the board of directors and staff will be at the Open House to tell about giving hope to children in foster care.

Local vendors will also be at the Open House with products and merchandise for sale or special order. A portion of the day’s sales will go to Lonoke County CASA.

Hor d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served throughout the day.

Palik also offered these suggestions on giving back during the holidays.

"Encourage your children to brighten the season for boys and girls who do not have loving families of their own," Palik said. Take them shopping for a new item to donate to CASA for a Lonoke County foster child, or give to a local support group that gives coats, backpacks or other items to children who need them.

Consider "adopting-a-child" during the holidays. "This is a great way to build camaraderie among co-workers," Palik said.

Volunteer individually or as a family to supply groceries for a holiday meal, or serve meals to homeless families in central Arkansas.

"After you’ve shopped ‘til you’ve dropped on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, make an online tax-deductible donation to your favorite charity," Palik said. Donations to CASA can also be made during the annual Day of Giving open house.
