HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — Students from Ward and Cabot recently took home honors at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts West Central Regional Science Fair.
The competition, which was held Feb. 26-28, is the culmination of yearlong Fundamentals in Research Methods projects. An awards ceremony was held Friday, Feb. 28.
Hunter Pool of Ward, son of Mellisa and Eric Hutchins and David Pool, won first place in the chemistry category.
Connor Taffe of Cabot, son of Suzanne and Owen Taffe, won first place in the engineering: materials and bioengineering category.
The top-three winners in each category are eligible compete in the Arkansas Science and Engineering Fair, which will be held at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway on April 4-5.
Each student participating in the science fair also participated in the West Central Regional Junior Academy of Sciences. Students were required to do a 10-minute presentation discussing their research. Taffe won an honorable mention for his presentation.
