Alton Wiggs, 87, died Friday, December 7, 2012. He was born to Ola Mae Wiggs on May 3, 1925. He served as Seaman First Class, gunner’s mate on the USS West Virginia during World War II fighting in numerous battles: Asiatic Pacific, American Theater and Philippine Liberation. He retired from US Air Force and GTE after 20 years of service respectively. He was married to his sweetheart, Hazel Bennett Wiggs, 62 years until her death in March 2009.

Survivors include daughters, Paula Breslin and husband Bob of Fort Thomas, Ky. and Susan Wiggs Crace of Searcy; one granddaughter; four grandsons; and one great-granddaughter: Lauren Roseberry and husband Heath, Charles Meadows and daughter, Cora, Kevin and Robert Breslin and Jordan Crace; siblings, Doris Sheffield of Nebraska and Jeannie Strole of Ill. Hazel’s brothers and their families will also feel our loss, the Jim and Winnie Bennett family of Cabot and Paul and Linda Bennett family of Judsonia.

A funeral was held 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Judsonia. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors.
