Catherine McKinzie Pettus, 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center. She was born the youngest of five children to the late Irene Williams McKinzie and Fred McKinzie Sr. on October 23, 1929, in Winchester, Ark.

She was a lifelong member of St. John Baptist Church in Lonoke, Ark, and enjoyed 21 years at Remington Arms, Inc. until her retirement in 1991. Catherine was an avid sports fan, faithfully watching and rooting on her teams, and in her leisure, she enjoyed traveling and taking cruises to various countries with her family and friends.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Pettus Sr., parents, Irene Williams McKinzie and Fred McKinzie Sr., two brothers, George and Frank McKinzie, and one sister, Bernice Rhodes.

Cherishing her memory are her sons, Calvin Pettus Jr. (Little Rock), Frederick Pettus (Betty)(Sherwood), Samuel Pettus (Lydia) (Tacoma, Wash.), Daniel Pettus (Brenda) (Sherwood), and Donnie Pettus (Neva) (McKinney, Texas); her daughters Essie Pettus Dickerson (Garland, Texas), Glenda Pettus Waller (Lonoke), Kathryn Moragne (Ronald) (Pine Bluff), Cynthia Pettus Puryear (Kevin) (Richmond, Va.), and Pamela Pettus (Staten Island, N.Y.); a brother Fred McKinzie Jr. (Oakland, Calif.); a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends; and her dearest devoted best friend, Mrs. Lois Hemphill, and Mrs. Betty Scribner who looked to her as a mother.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the St. John Baptist Church in Lonoke, with Rev. Brian Dodson officiating. Interment was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lonoke, Ark.
