David Lee "Dave" Starkey, 66, of Sylvania died Tuesday, July 10, 2012. He was born July 21, 1945. He was a retired sheet metal worker who spent 28 years with Union Pacific Railroad.

During the Vietnam War he served aboard the USS Stribling and was a member of American Legion Post No. 71. He was an avid drummer who traveled with the Union Pacific Rail Road Band. He was a member of the Country Chapel Church in Sylvania

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Noble Starkey; his father, Albert Starkey, and two brothers, O.B. and Freddie Starkey.

Survivors include his wife, Etta Starkey; a daughter, Kim Mullins and husband Ron; two sons, Robert Smith and wife Sherri and Kevin Smith; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rachel Hicks of San Antonio, Texas.

A funeral was held Friday, July 13, 2012, at Country Chapel in Sylvania, Burial was in Sylvania Cemetery.
