Helen Rachel Smith Rahn

Blythewood: Helen Rachel Smith Rahn, 96, of Blythewood, S.C., died Monday, December 3, 2012. Born in Bocas Del Toro, Panama, a daughter of the late William Grant Smith and Rosa de la Espriella Smith, Helen lived in Panama until she met her husband, George. His employment with the US government allowed them to live all over the world, including Europe, the Middle East, Alaska, and throughout the United States. After the death of her husband, Helen lived in Cabot, AR with her son, and moved to Blythewood in August to be near her daughter, Denise. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and fine friend to many. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of various churches in the towns in which she lived, finally attending Trinity United Methodist Church in Blythewood until her death.

Survivors include her children, Byron (Nancy) Rahn of Cabot, AR, Denise (Wayne) Whittington of Blythewood; grandchildren, Tascha Rahn of Dallas, Nathan Rahn of Cabot, AR and April McGuire of Columbia; great grandchildren, Grant, Mackenzie and Bryson; sister, Alice Miller of Raleigh; and brother, Robert Smith of Atlanta. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, George Rahn; her brothers, Henry, Dick, and George Smith; as well as a sister, Melba Snyder.

A memorial service for Mrs. Rahn was held 2 o’clock, Wednesday, December 5th, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 90 Boney Road, Blythewood, with The Rev. Dr. Cathy Jamieson-Ogg officiating.
