NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Cabot Centennial Bank overcame an almost two-hour lightning delay to beat Jacksonville Gwatney Chevrolet 12-10 in the first round of the Area 3 Zone tournament at Burns Park on Thursday.

The game started at 7:15 p.m. After a scoreless first inning, Centennial Bank scored three runs in the top of the second to lead 3-0.

Justin Goff led off with a single and Dustin Morris followed with a double. Goff scored on a sacrifice fly by Cole Thomas. Tyler Wilkie followed with a single. He stole second base and went to third on a bad throw, which allowed Morris to score.

Wilkie then scored on a single by Scott Burnett.

Following Centennial Bank’s at-bat, lightning intensified in the area and the game was stopped at about 7:45 p.m.

Teams began warming up around 9:30 p.m. and the game restarted shortly after that.

The score was tied 10-10 after seven innings. Centennial Bank scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings. T.C. Carter singled in the eighth and scored on a single Morris.

Burnett singled in the ninth and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Casey Vaughan.

Centennial Bank’s Ryan Logan pitched the bottom of the ninth to get the save.

Goff, Morris and Wilkie led Centennial Bank with three runs scored.

Chris McClendon led Gwatney with three runs scored.

Centennial Bank plays North Little Rock in the second round tonight at 7 o’clock.
