The Cabot Centennial Bank-One junior American Legion baseball team completed a perfect run in the Area 3 Zone Tournament by beating Jacksonville 16-2 in the championship game July 10 at Burns Park.
Cabot made no bones about its intention by scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning.
With one out, Adam Hicks walked and Tristan Bulice singled. Jonathan Latture then walked to load the bases.
Landon James was walked to force in Hicks with the first run of the inning. Gavin Tillery then singled to drive in Bulice.
Two batters later, Dylan Bowers walked to drive in Latture. Lee Sullivan then reached on an error, allowing James and Tillery to score. Bowers and Sullivan scored on a double by Riley Knudsen. HIcks followed with a single to drive in Knudsen.
Cabot scored three more in the top of the second to lead 11-0. With one out, Tillery singled. Two batters later, Bowers reached on an error. Sullivan followed with a single, driving in Tillery. Knudsen singled, driving in Bowers and Sullivan.
Jacksonville scored twice in the bottom of the second for its only runs of the game.
Cabot then scored a single run in the top of the third. Coleman McAtee walked and scored on a single by Glover Helpenstill.
Cabot scored two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Sullivan scored on a double by Knudsen, who eventually scored when Dalten Hurst was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Brandon Jones led off the fifth with a walk. Trent Frizzell then singled. They both scored on a double by Bulice.
Knudsen led the offensive charge with three hits, two runs and five RBIs. Tillery was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Sullivan led Cabot with three runs scored.
Knudsen got the win. He gave up two runs — both earned — and two hits in five innings of work. He walked five but struck out eight Jacksonville batters.
Cabot Centennial Bank went 0-2 in the Junior American Legion state tournament last weekend at Sheridan.
Cabot lost to Paragould 6-5 in the first round and then fell 6-2 to Sheridan in the loser’s bracket.
In the loss to Paragould, Cabot led 5-0 after three innings. Adam Hicks was hit by a pitch to start the first ining. He scored on a single by Gavin Tillery.
Cabot’s second run came in the second. Lee Sullivan singled and scored on a ground out by Dylan Bowers.
Cabot scored three in the third. Scoring were Jonathan Latture, Tillery and Landon James.
Paragould scored four in the fourth and once in the sixth and seventh to win the game.
Tristan Bulice, Tillery and Sullivan each had two hits to lead Cabot. Getting one hit each were Latture, James, Austin Null and Dalten Hurst.
In the loss to Sheridan, Cabot’s only runs came in the sixth inning. Tillery singled and scored while Brandon Jones walked and scored.
