The Cabot North Lady Panthers edged Lake Hamilton 35-28 on Thursday at the Cabot North Arena.
The Lady Panthers led 7-2 after one quarter and 11-9 at halftime.
CoCo Calhoon led North with nine points and five steals. Maddie Rice had eight points. Rachel Allgood had five points, five assist and four steals.
Lily Sinclair added five poitns and five rebounds. Clair Eifling had four points. Sydney Roberts added three while Makenzie Sexton hit a free throw.
"The team had another poor shooting performance in the first half but come out in the second half and finally shot the ball better, shooting 40 percent as a team," North coach Jeremy Halbrook said. "Again, we believe our team defense is what wins games for us forcing Lake Hamilton to turn the ball over 26 times, to our 12 turnovers for the game. "
Halbrook said it was a "physical game."
"Lake Hamilton shot the ball well enough to win but our team defense has been the key all year," he said. "Our shooting has struggled the first two conference games but we causing our opponents to turn the ball over and we are getting to the foul line. Defense is what wins Championships and the girls are buying in to that."
North is now 7-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
North 29, Benton 20
Cabot North pulled away from Benton in the second quarter for a 29-20 win over Benton last week.
The score was tied 2-2 after one quarter. North then led 12-5 at halftime.
CoCo Calhoon led North with 10 points, five steals and was 6 for 8 at the free throw line.
Makenzie Sexton had six points — all from the free throw line. Claire Eifling had four points and five rebounds. Rachel Alllgood added four points. Lily Sinclair had five rebounds.
The Cabot North eighth-grade girls won their last three games, beating Little Rock Christian 36-31, Lake Hamilton 32-20 and Central Arkansas Christian 43-12.
In the win over Little Rock Christian, Josie Starr led her team with 20 points. Tori Woods had five. Haley Sobczak and Bethany Hill had four points each. Maggie Bush scored two while Alexandria Denton added a free throw.
In the win over Lake Hamilton, Hill and Sobczak each scored 10 points. Denon had four. Woods, Tailor Ray, Callie Richard and Starr had two points each.
In North’s win over CAC, Hill led her team with 11 points. Starr ha dine. Woods scored five. Taylor Godsey and Denton had four points each. Taylor Ahart, Bush, Brayden Giesler, Ray and Sobczak had two points each.
South girls fall to Conway Blue
The Cabot South Lady Panthers fell to Conway Blue 49-45 last week.
They made a big comeback after trailing 12-1 after the first quarter and 24-15 at halftime.
Leighton Taylor led South with 20 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Anna Sullivan added seven points. Sarah Davis scored six. Chloe Bean had four points, four rebounds and three steals. Madison Nichols had four points and five boards. Heather Hill and Courtney Gibson had two points each.
