Ten Cabot Panther football players earned postseason honors for the 2012 season that saw the Panthers return to the playoffs after a year’s absence. Cabot was 7-5 this season.

Junior Jake Vaughan and sophomore Jake Ferguson were both named to the Class 7A all-state team and the 7A/6A-East all-conference team first team.

Vaughan led the Panthers in tackles with 126. He also had five tackles for losses and two recovered fumbles. He had a season high 15 against Jonesboro.

Ferguson was second with 108 tackles. He led the Panthers with seven interceptions. He also returned a pick for a touchdown.

Junior Keith Pledger, senior Matt Griffin and senior Zach Calhoun were also named first team all-conference.

Pledger caught six passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Panthers. he also rushed for 53 yards on 10 carries. He averaged 35 yards a punt on 29 attempts.

Griffin had 75 tables, five sacks, eight tackles for loss and also scored a defensive touchdown.

Calhoun, playing center, helped the Panthers rush for 3,256 yards and pass for 356.

Five players were named second-team all-conference. They are junior Heath Pledger, junior Chris Henry, senior Kyle Edgar, senior Seth Hoggard and junior Brandon Arthur.

Pledger, playing on the offensive line, helped the Panthers gain more than 3,600 yards.

Henry rushed for 629 yards on 69 carries. he also scored two touchdowns. Henry caught five passes for 57 yards. He also averaged 10.9 yards per punt return on 14 attempts. He returned 16 kickoffs for a 19.4 yard average.

Edgar led the Panthers in rushing with 910 yards on 196 carries. He also scored a team-high 15 touchdowns.

Hoggard had 70 tackles, three interceptions and two blocked kicks.

Arthur had 54 tackles, including four sacks.

Nineteen Cabot players also earned academic all-conference honors. They are Brandon Boatright, Tristan Bulice, Max Carroll, Kyle Edgar, Colby Ferguson, Jake Ferguson, Blake Gibson, Matt Griffin, Seth Hoggard, Kason Kimbrell, Zach Launius, Keith Pledger, Heath Pledger, Ben Powell, Alex Ramirez, Brandon Rhea, Josh Samons, Ian Thompson and Jake Vaughan.
