The Cabot South Panthers broke open a close game in the second half for a 31-21 win over Cabot North in the "Battle of Cabot" on Thursday at Panther Arena.

The first half was close as both teams exchanged leads as North led 2-0 and 4-3 before South’s Lake Boyett scored on a putback with 1:55 left in the first quarter to give his team a 5-4 lead.

North regained the lead at 6-5 on a drive to the basket by Garrett Rowe with 4:30 left in the first half.

South then scored six in a row — on three-pointers by Hunter Sutherland and Sawyer Stalnaker — to lead 11-6.

Rowe stopped the run with a jumper with 1:45 left in the half but Boyett scored on a putback at the buzzer to give his team a 13-8 halftime lead.

South scored the first five points of the second half to lead 18-8. North eventually cut the deficit to 24-18 with 3:06 left in the game. South outscored North 7-3 the remainder of the game.

Sutherland led South with 12 points. Boyett and Lino Garcia had four points each. Scoring three each were Holden Barnes, Stalnaker and Kenny Fowler. Stephen Powell added two.

Rowe led North with 15 points. Jared Dixon had three. Chandler Casteel scored two while Sebastian Zulch hit a free throw.
