The Cabot South Lady Panthers rallied from a 12-point third quarter deficit to beat Cabot North 35-32 in the "Battle of Cabot" on Thursday at Panther Arena.
North led 16-6 at halftime and 28-19 following a basket by CoCo Calhoon with 5:53 left in the third quarter.
South then went to work, scoring five in a row to cut the deficit to 18-11. Anna Sullivan scored three while Leighton Taylor scored on a drive to the basket.
South coach Lori Harmon was hit with a technical foul with 3:54 left in the quarter. North’s Lily Sinclair hit both foul shots to push her team’s lead to 20-11.
However, North was not able to capitalize on the ensuing possession and South cut the score to 20-14 on a three-pointer by Taylor with 3:06 left.
Sinclair hit two more free throws to give her team a 22-14 lead. South then scored eight in a row, and 10 of 12, to tie the game at 24-24 with 11 seconds left.
North’s Rachel Allgood hit 1 of 2 free throws with 2.6 seconds left to give her team a 25-24 lead.
Allgood then hit two foul shots early in the fourth quarter to push North’s lead to 27-24. However, South tied it at 27-27 on a three-point play by Sullivan then took the lead for good on two foul shots by Chloe Bean.
North had chances to reclaim the lead. Trailing 33-31 after a layup by Claire Eifling, North got the ball back on a missed South shot.
However, Syndey Roberts missed a three-pointer with with about 16 seconds left. Eifling got the rebound and was fouled. She missed the first free throw but hit the second to make the score 33-32.
South’s Madison Nichols was fouled with 7.6 seconds left and hit two free throws to push the lead to 35-32. North’s Maddie Rice then missed a three-pointer with less than two seconds remaining.
Sullivan led South with 16 points. Taylor added 12. Nichols, Sarah Davis and Bean had two points each. Courtney Gibson added one.
Sinclair led North with 13 points. Calhoon had nine. Eifling scored five. Allgood added three while MaKenzie Sexton hit a field goal.
South girls 40, Benton 22
Cabot South knocked off Benton 40-22 on Monday.
South led 13-2 after one quarter and 20-5 at halftime.
Anna Sullivan led South with 15 points. Sarah Davis had seven points and two steals. Leighton Taylor had five points. Heather Hill added four. Chloe Bean and Courtney Gibson had three points each. Sydnie Reedy had two. Parker Steadman added a free throw.
Conway White 60, North girls 51
Conway White jumped out to a big lead then held on for a 60-54 win over Cabot North’s girls last week.
Conway led 12-3 after one quarter and 30-17 at halftime.
"We just got outplayed from the start to the finish," North coach Jeremy Halbrook said. "We fought back to have a chance at the end but didn’t make plays when they were needed."
Claire Eifling led North with 25 points and seven rebounds. CoCo Calhoon had 11 points and five boards. Lily Sinclair had five points and five rebounds. Makenzie Sexton had four points. Maddie Rice, Sydney Roberts and Rachel Allgood each had three points. Allgood also had seven assists.
