The Carlisle High School cheerleading squad continued to be one of the top ones in Class 2A/1A when it finished as state runner up during the Arkansas Activities Association state competition on Saturday at Summit Arena in Hot Springs.
The Bison finished second behind state champion Junction City. Two years ago, Carlisle won the state title. A year ago, the Bison finished third.
Nine teams competed in the Class 2A/1A division.
"The Carlisle senior cheerleaders have put in countless hours of work from August to December preparing for this day," coach Lindsey Thaxton said. "They went out on the floor and poured their hearts out for 2 minutes and 30 seconds and made Carlisle very proud to call them their cheerleaders."
Thaxton said she couldn’t have asked for a better performance from her squad.
"They brought it to the floor and showed the state of Arkansas why Carlisle cheerleading is the best," she said. "I am so proud of those girls.
"Junction City is the 2A/1A state champions for 2012 but they had better be ready because Carlisle is taking the title next year."
