The Carlisle School Board approved changes to personnel policies for certified and classified staff during their meeting Monday, July 10.

According to superintendent Jason Clark, changes include:

• The district changed from paying the retiree for accumulated sick leave up to a maximum of 90 days at the rate of $35 to $45 per day for certified employees and $25 to $35 for classified employees.

• It’s recommended that vacation be taken during the months of June, July or August.

• “Sick days may be exchanged for personal days at a rate of 4 to 1,” Clark explained.

Personal days may not be granted during semester tests or state teaching unless there are extreme circumstances.

•Special circumstances in which casual dress exceeds two days per a week, such as for fundraisers or spirit events may by allowed with superintendent approval.

•If an employee, who has not used vacation days and who will lose the days, may sell the lost days, up to 10, to the district at the rate of substitute pay of $60 per a day.

•All certified personnel will be evaluated by the new Teacher Excellence and Support System [TESS].

•In the year, a teacher receives National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification; the district will award 60 hours of professional development credit.

The board approved summer school for seventh- and eight-grade students.

This year, Clark told the board, that about 20 seven- and eight-grade students didn’t pass three out of four core subjects, so Susie Ward said she would do a 10-day summer school course in math in July. The board also approved to send two students to Lonoke for summer school in English or Social Studies.

The board approved for an American Youth Football Association to use Fred Hardke Stadium for pee wee football games at $100 each time and the playground for practice.

The board approved resignations of band/choir director Mary Poppelreiter, Kathleen Weems with the HIPPY program and ISS teacher Jennifer Pyles. The board approved the hire of band director Christina Bartlett.

The board approved summer school hires of Jean Raborn, Cathy Plafcan, Dorothy Woodall, Michelle Waymire, Deeanne Schafer, Rebecca St. Clair, Melinda Brazeal, Sommer Goodrich, Leann Brazeal, Robin Lewis, Judy Scroggins, Carla Hanks, Stephanie Sanders, Bonnie Herring, Lindsey Thaxton, Megan Aukes, Melanie Brown, Missy Hunt, Tammy Perkins, Les Bendge and Linda Johns.

The board also approved the new high school principal Brad Horn’s salary at $73,000 and the new elementary school principal Karen Norton’s salary at $67,000.

In other business, the board approved Health Special Risk at $19,250 for student insurance, the proposed budget of expenditures and the board policy on school choice.

The next board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. July 15 in the administration building.
