City Clerk/Treasurer Trudy Drye gave the mayor’s report by reading a letter on behalf of Mayor Ray Glover on Monday during the Chamber of Commerce.

The following is the letter from Glover:

"Since the last chamber meeting there has been considerable progress made on the Bobby L. Glover Highway. Our exit will be very nice with three lanes, curb, gutters and sidewalks. We mow our own exit and keep it clean in an effort to attract more business and hopefully, ‘new’ businesses in our town. I ask the current businesses to keep your property free of litter and make sure it is kept clean to help in our endeavors.

"The new stage is a much needed improvement to our city park. The stage was used and enjoyed by the Carlisle Day Celebration this past weekend. I would like to thank Gary Wilson for donating his time in helping us erect the roof for the stage. We could not have done it without him.

"Work has begun by the Arkansas Department of Correction on tearing down the two buildings on Main Street where the new Police and Court Building will be built. We hope to start construction this fall. Thanks to [state Sen.] Bobby Glover for his help on this project.

"Robin Rountree and Brent Doney are busy contacting people who need to clean their property. Final contacts are being made, and after that is completed, fines will be levied.

"The airport commission obtained a $240,000.00 grant to overlay the North-South runway at the airport. Work on this project will begin soon.

"Congratulations to the Carlisle 10 Year Olds Baseball Team for winning the 2012 District Tournament held in Lonoke. The coaches for this team are Matt Fuller, Scott Hitchings and Jack Owen.

The City would like to thank the Futuristic League, Heritage League and Carlisle Lions club for donating money to purchase swings for the playground at the City Park."

In other chamber business, Airport Day will be Oct. 20. Chamber president Judie Bariola said she has received yearly quotes and event insurance quotes. She said the National Guard would be attending both Airport Days and the Alumni Day in the Park event. The chamber plans to sponsor a bouncy house for the entertainment of children during the Alumni Day Celebration.

Also during the meeting, members voted to sponsor the Open Arms Shelter 5K Run by allowing them to advertise on the chambers LED sign.

There was a board meeting held following the regular meeting to discuss new officers.

The next chamber of commerce meeting will be noon Aug. 13 in the Civic Center.
