Today: BancorpSouth in Carlisle will collecting school supplies for children in need throughout the month of August. Donations may be dropped of in the lobby during regular business hours.

Today: The Marjorie Walker McCrary Memorial Library is celebrating the end of summer reading with a back to school party. Come see The Kinders preform today at 5 p.m. in the American Legion Building located on 117 East 2nd Street. For more information, please call 501-676-6635.

Saturday: The 2013 Mothers 4 Education Back to School Bash will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Carlisle City Park. There will be free school supplies, activities, food and entertainment provided throughout the event. Children must be present to receive supplies.

Saturday: The grand opening of the Gina Cox Center at Lonoke High School will be held at 3 p.m. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m.

Monday: The Carlisle Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon at the Civic Center.

Monday: The Lonoke City Council meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the Court Room.

Monday: The Carlisle School Board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. in the board room at the superintendent’s office.

Tuesday: There will be a kindergarten parents meeting at 6 p.m. in the Carlisle Elementary School cafeteria for parents of kindergarten students in the Carlisle School District. Parents may bring their child’s $35 school supply fee to the meeting.

Tuesday: The Grand Prairie Civil War Round Table will be meeting at 7 p.m. in the Lonoke County Museum, located in downtown Lonoke, at 215 South East Front Street. Dr. Shawn Fisher, history professor at Harding University in Searcy will bring our program. His presentation is titled: James Wolfe Ripley and the Sinews of War: Body Armor and Repeating Rifles in the American Civil War. Everyone is invited and as always, guests are welcome. There is no admission charge.

Aug. 15: The Carlisle School District will host an open house at the elementary and high school from 6-7:30 p.m. Parents are students are invited to attend.

Aug. 19: The Carlisle School District will begin its first day of the 2013-2014 at 8 a.m.

Aug. 19: The Lonoke School Board will meet at 6 p.m. at the administration office.

Aug. 20: The Carlisle City Council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center.

Aug. 24: The Carlisle Bison Booster Club will sponsor the Bison Bash at 5:30 p.m. in the Carlisle City Park. Carlisle Junior and high school football players, band members, cheerleaders and dance team will be introduced. Activities include face painting, football toss and the car bash. Pork chop sandwiches, beans, a drink, chips and a cookie may be purchased for $7 per a person.

Aug. 24: The Lonoke County Museum will host the "Not so Newlywed game" at 6:30 p.m. Some of the contestants include Les and Cheryl Anderson, Wade and Diana Finley, Mike and Betty Wilson, Doug and Gayla Ervin, Derrick and Tammy Walker, Patti and Barry Weathers as well as John and Judy Garner. Bill Ryker will be the master of ceremony. Dress is casual and refreshments will be available. Cost is $20 per ticket. Call 501-676-6750 to reserve a seat.
