Effective next week, the single-copy price of the Lonoke Democrat and Carlisle Independent are increasing to $0.75. The newspapers haven’t had a single-copy increase in many years.
"Increases in the cost of labor, raw materials and transportation — basically the cost of doing business — are the culprits," according to Publisher, Byron Tate. "Our goal is to provide the very best local news coverage and to make it as affordable as possible for our readers. Although we are announcing a single-copy rate increase, we feel strongly that the Carlisle Independent and Lonoke Democrat are still among the best bargains around."
Many newspapers across the country are already priced at $0.75 or more.
The rate increase will be put into effect on May 9, in all newsrack and in-store locations.
