The Carlisle School board discussed hiring a concession stand manager for basketball season during the Monday night board meeting.

Superintendent Jason Clark said he plans to revamp how the concession stand during basketball games is ran. He said in previous years the junior class and sponsors were to rotate duties to oversee concession. He said in many cases students and parents were not showing up to work the events. Clark decided to open a position within the district to offer to manager the concession stand. He said along with a manager, one sponsor and four to five students from the Junior Class, Band or Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) will run concession during the game. Clark said at the end of basketball season, profits from the concession stand will be divided amongst the three groups.

Board president Terry McCallie excused himself during voting. The remaining board members voted unanimously to hire Angelia McCalie as concession stand manage at the hourly rate of $8.25 per hour.

The district will be getting an upgrade to the phone system at the elementary school and administration building. According to Clark, the high school has a IP phone system. He said the district pays $1,400 per year for trouble shooting for the phone system. With the old system at the elementary school and administration building, Clark said the district pays $7,200 per year for a phone lease and a minimum $250 per service call. He said there is also a need for a tower at Stratton Seed to connect both the high school and elementary campus.

Three bids were received for the project. The lowest bid was from IK Electric Company of Little Rock for a bid of $12,815 for the phone system and $5,666 for connectivity as one time charges. Clark said the troubleshooting fee will increase $400 to $1,800 per year, but still save the district $7,200 per year for the phone lease of the old system.

Clark said there would be no down time during the switch. He also noted he anticipated the change during the previous year, so the new phone system has been budgeted for. The board voted unanimously to accept the bids from IK Electric for both the new phone and connectivity systems.

During Clark’s administrative report he gave an update on high school ditches and asphalting. He said the drainage ditches beside the parking lot have been filled in and graveled. He said he has had one engineer out to review the property in anticipation for asphalting. Clark said his engineering fee is $8,750. No action was taken at this time. Clark said he would be looking into getting more engineering bids,

Clark said he would like to recognize and thank Robbie Fortner of Twisted Graphics for donation signs at Fred C. Hardke Field. He said the signs include the new ticket cost signs, bathroom signs and the "Home of the Bison" sign which is displayed on the press box.

Also during the meeting, the board voted to:

-Appointing Cliff Schafer as voting delegate for the Arkansas School Board Association conference.

-Pay a one time $600 bonuses for all classified and certified employees of the district.

-Approve changes to the cheer leading constitution.

Bryan Oliger was absent from the meeting. The next school board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10 in the boardroom at the Superintendent’s Office.
