The Carlisle Bison bounced back from a disappointing loss to Hughes in the conference finale last week by beating Conway Christian 72-65 on Tuesday night.

The Bison are now 12-7 on the season.

Carlisle got off to a great start, leading 23-10 after one quarter. The Eagles cut the deficit to 41-31 at halftime.

However, the Bison pushed the lead back to 15 points after three quarters and 58-43.

Chris Hart led the Bison with 21 points. Austin Reed had 16. Dathan Hill added 13. Deron Ricks scored eight second-half points. Braden Reed added seven. Justice Bryant scored five while Chris Clayvon Edwards had two.

The Bison were coming off a 58-47 loss to Hughes in the final regular-season game at Bison Arena on Jan. 31.

"We played well," Carlisle coach William Rountree said. "Offensively, there were a couple of things in the fourth quarter we need to do a little better against a man defense but it was a positive win."

Rountree said he was concerned about how his team would do energy-wise in a non-conference game this late in the season.

"We did a good job," he said.

Rountree said he feels good about his team, which finished third in the 2A-6 standings. The Bison have to win their first tournament game Monday to be qualified for the regional tournament, which starts Feb. 20 at Bison Arena.

"We are looking forward to the tournament," he said.

In the loss to Hughes, the Bison fell behind 23-7 after one quarter and trailed 32-16 late in the second quarter. Carlisle scored the last five points to trail 32-21 at halftime. Austin Reed and Hill scored two points each while Hart added a free throw.

Hughes then led 47-33 after three quarters.

Carlisle cut into the deficit and trailed 50-42 following a layup by Hart with 3:21 left.

The Bison had a chance to get closer but Hill came up short on a three-pointer with 2:31 left.

Carlisle pulled to within seven with 2:09 left on a three-point play by Braden Reed.

After a basket by Hughes, Austin Reed hit two free throws with 1:21 left to make the score 54-47. The Blue Devils then scored the game’s final four points.

Austin Reed led Carlisle with 22 points. Hill and Edwards had six points each. Hart added five. Braden Reed and Justice Bryant scored four points each. Nick Schafer added two.
