For three quarters, Carlisle had 28 points and 27 turnovers and a one-point lead over Hazen in the 2A-6 opener at Bison Arena. The fourth quarter was a different story.
Carlisle committed only one turnover in the final eight minutes as the Lady Bison pulled away for a 47-37 win over the Lady Hornets.
"We had trouble with their pressure in the first three quarters," Carlisle coach Jonathan Buffalo said. "We did a much better job of handling the basketball in the fourth quarter, making enough plays to win the game."
The Lady Bison led 30-27 after Breanna Young hit two free throws early in the fourth quarter. Hazen’s Tineya Palton hit a short jumpier with 7:34 left to make the score 30-29.
From there, the Lady Bison scored 10 consecutive points to lead 40-29. Faith Walker scored six while Young had eight.
Hazen’s Kalyn Booth hit a three-pointer to end the run but the Lady Hornets never got closer than eight points the rest of the game, which was 45-37 with 33 seconds left.
Carlisle’s Sloane Henderson hit two free throws with 26.8 seconds left to set the final score.
The win over Hazen broke a three-game losing streak for the Lady Bison. After starting the season 3-0, including a win over two-time defending state champion England, the Carlisle lost all three of its games last week, two of which came in a tournament at Benton Harmony Grove.
"I told the ladies after last week that we had a rough week last week," Buffalo said. "The conference season — it’s a different set of games. These are the ones where we’re looking to win a championship. It’s a 14-step ladder that we’re trying to go up and this was the first one but we’ve got 13 more to go."
Young led the Lady Bison with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Walker had 12 points and six boards. Callie Hillman had eight points and four rebounds. She hit a pair of three-pointers in the second quarter.
Maddie Harrison had five points. Hannah Cooper, Presley Carter and Henderson scored two points each. Cooper also had nine rebounds.
Kayla Curlett led Hazen with 16 points.

Glen Rose led 22-7 after one quarter and 36-22 at halftime.
Faith Walker led Carlisle with a season-high 27 points. Sloane Henderson had 12. Callie Hillman had eight. Presley Carter added six. Hannah Cooper scored four.
