The Lonoke Community Center Board met Monday and agreed to move forward with the acquisition of a LED electric sign for the community center lawn.
“The sign will let the community know what’s going on [at the center],” board member Kim Lloyd said.
The proposal for a new sign had been tabled due to the center’s greater need for a new roof. Center director Mike Brown said the roof work is done, there are no leaks and it already feels cooler in the center.
“Hopefully it will save on electrical bills,” Brown said.
The board also approved spending up to $500 for a laptop computer for center athletic director Antujuan Terry for scheduling basketball tournaments.
Brown announced that the center’s 10th anniversary celebration has been moved from June 16 to August 18 in conjunction with back-to-school activities. Brown said activities would include hot dogs, blood pressure checks and free school supplies provided by the Carver Alumni Association.
Other summer activities include:
• A basketball camp that is to be hosted by former Arkansas Razorback Charles Balentine from July 10-12. The cost is $35 and includes a T-shirt. Camp for kindergarten through fifth grade starts at 9 a.m. and camp for sixth through 12th grade at 1 p.m.
