The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has been in operation for more than three years, and Lonoke County has seen advances and changes related to the Lottery, according to a report from the Arkansas Lottery Commission.
First and most important are the Lottery scholarships, which constitute the agency’s only mission. Foremost are the citizens of Lonoke County, who have received 2,657 scholarships to go to college anywhere in Arkansas.
But there’s more news about the Lottery that the people of Lonoke County deserve to know. The Lottery sells draw tickets like the Arkansas-only Natural State Jackpot and the national Powerball and Mega Millions games, as well as instant tickets like $250,000 Taxes Free, Emerald Riches, Tattoo Doubler, Pac Man, and the amazing Arkansas $2,000,000 Gold Rush ticket. People ask all the time if there are ever any winners. You be the judge: Total lottery prize payments in Lonoke County alone have reached $31,614,696. These include prizes as large as $1,000,000. And when you add the surrounding counties of Jefferson, Prairie, Pulaski, and White, prizes total $297.3 Million. In fact, Arkansas ranks among the top lotteries in the country in instant ticket prize payouts.
Lottery tickets have been good business for the 32 retailers in the county, and without them not a single ticket would be sold and not a single Lottery scholarship awarded. These Lonoke County businesses operating in the cities of Cabot, Lonoke, England, Ward, Austin, and Carlisle have earned $2,826,134 since the first ticket was sold in September 2009. Top Lonoke County retailers are Exxon Travel Plaza, Murphy USA 6802, Doublebee’s 132 and Alford Tobacco in Cabot and Lonoke Shell. Total lottery sales in Lonoke County have reached $50,466,684 since operation began.
This report from the Arkansas Lottery Commission was presented so that the 69,341 residents of Lonoke County will have the information they deserve to see how their Arkansas Scholarship Lottery is affecting their County and area.
