The Lonoke School Board met in a special meeting Tuesday night to discuss a student discipline issue, an inclement weather dates for graduation and furniture options for the Gina Cox Center.

At the request of the students family, the hearing was closed to the public. Following the hearing, the board voted unanimously to expel the male high school student for the remainder of the year. The student was in violation of Rule 32, terroristic threatening.

In other business, Lonoke High School graduation is set for 8 p.m. Friday, May 17 at James B. Abraham Stadium. In the event of inclement weather, the board unanimously voted to approve rain dates for the event. If graduations is canceled on Friday due to rain it will be rescheduled for Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. on the football field. If it is still raining Saturday, graduation will be rescheduled for Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. on the football field. In the event it continues to rain on Sunday, graduation will be moved into the high school gymnasium.

The board also unanimously approved the purchase of furniture for the Gina Cox Center in the amount of $63,044. During a previous meeting, the board approved to spend a maximum of $50,000 on furniture for the new building. In addition to the budgeted cafeteria furniture and desks, the new price includes a conference table, filing cabinets and shelves. Although the price is higher, it still remains within the maximum budget expenditures for the building.

Chris James, Mike Brown and Matt Boyles were absent from the meeting.

The next regular board meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. May 20 at the superintendent’s office.
