It was a successful debut for the Lonoke Jackrabbits basketball team.

Lonoke broke open a close game in the second quarter in beating Pulaski Robinson 59-28 on Tuesday in Little Rock.

Lonoke led 11-9 after one quarter. Dra Offord, Darian Young, Zack Risner, Reid McKenzie and Blake Mack each scored two points during the quarter. Jamel Rankin added a free throw.

The second quarter belonged to the Jackrabbits. Lonoke outscored the Senators 21-6 to lead 32-15 at halftime. Rankin scored 10 points in the second quarter. Mack added four. Darrius McCall had three while Young and Tykel Gray scored two points each.

The Jackrabbits outscored the Senators 18-8 in the third quarter and 9-5 in the fourth quarter.

Lonoke coach Dean Campbell said he platooned his players during the opening moments so they could get a feel for the game.

"In the second quarter, we turned it up with more full-court pressure," he said. "That really gave them problems. Our guys did a really good job of executing what we’re trying to do with our press and we started getting some easy buckets. The more we got of those, it kept snowballing on them."

Rankin led the Jackrabbits with 14 points. Offord had 12. Young scored seven. Mack and McCall had six points each. Caleb Bracy added three. Scoring two points each were Gray, Ced Cooney, Risner, McKenzie and Dustyn Perkins. Braylin Bryant added a free throw.

The victory was Lonoke’s first game since falling to Jonesboro Westside in the first round of the Class 4A East Region tournament last February at Cave City.

"I think we still have a little bit of that taste in our mouth from that," Campbell said. "It was good to get the first one and get it out of the way. You never know how your kids are going to respond."
