The Lonoke Lady Jackrabbits opened the 2012-13 season with a 54-28 win over the DeWitt Dragonettes on Tuesday night at the LHS gymnasium.
The first quarter was close until Lonoke’s Savannah Holman hit two three-pointers late in the quarter. Callie Whitfield hit one of her own as the Lady Jackrabbits led 15-7 after one quarter.
Lonoke led 21-12 at halftime. Whitfield hit another three-pointer. Kerasha Johnson hit two free throws while Eboni Willis had one.
Lonoke started to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring DeWitt 12-2 to lead 33-14.
Holman led Lonoke with 13 points. Jasalyn Truelove had 12. Johnson had 11. Whitfield had nine. Amanda Sexton added four. Haiden Jeter scored two. Kaelin Whisnant, Jeni Rooney and Willis scored one point each.
Lonoke coach Nathan Morris said the biggest thing about the win was playing another team.
"We’ll use it as a ‘get-better’ night," he said. "That’s what we did on Saturday in our jamboree. We will continue to do that for the next couple of weeks before our conference season starts."
Lonoke played in a jamboree in North Little Rock on Saturday, scrimmaging the Lady Charging Wildcats and Central Arkansas Christian.
Jr. Lady Rabbits 41, DeWitt 24
The Lonoke Junior Lady Jackrabbits and new coach Angela Watson, beat DeWitt 41-24 in the season opener Tuesday.
Lonoke trailed 9-8 after one quarter but led 20-13 at halftime.
Jarrelyn McCall led Lonoke with 19 points. Ashlyn Allen and Brooke Jackson had eight points each. Annie Whisnant had six.
Jr. Rabbits 36, DeWitt 23
The Lonoke Junior Jackrabbits knocked off DeWitt 36-23 in the season opener Tuesday.
DeWitt led 8-4 after one quarter but Lonoke rallied to lead 18-16 at halftime.
Lonoke held DeWitt scoreless in the third quarter to lead 26-16 heading into the fourth quarter.
Jawaun Bryant led Lonoke with 12 points. Bryson Jackson had 10. Isaac Toney had six. Justin Meadows added four. Tamarrea Moore and Michael Kelly had two points each.
