For the second consecutive season, the Lonoke Jackrabbits were the top seed in the Class 4A East Region tournament and, again, they came out on the short end of the scoreboard.

Lonoke committed seven errors and allowed six unearned runs in a 6-5 loss to Gosnell in the first round of the regional tournament Friday at the Lonoke Ball Park. With the loss, Lonoke misses the state tournament for the second consecutive season after playing in the Class 4A state title game in 2012.

After a scoreless first inning, the Jackrabbits got on the board when Cody Martin scored on a single by Savontee Rountree.

That did not last long as the Pirates scored twice in the top of the third to lead 2-1.

Lonoke tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Nick Watson reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a double by Mikey Shinn.

Gosnell scored three times in the fifth and once in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead.

Lonoke got one run back in the bottom of the sixth. Casey Martin doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Elijah Seigrist.

The Jackrabbits then had a shot to tie in the bottom of the seventh. Christian James led off with a single. Two batters later, he scored on a single by Watson. A few batters later, Watson scored on a single by Casey Martin. Cody Martin walked and was stranded at second base to end the game.
