The Lonoke Jackrabbits clinched the second seed in the 4A-2 district tournament with an 18-5 win over Clinton on Friday. The Jackrabbits tied Stuttgart for the conference championship with a 5-1 record but the Ricebirds get the top seed by virtue of their win over Lonoke two weeks ago.

Lonoke is now 15-6 on the season.

The Jackrabbits will play in the semifinals of the district tournament Saturday at 2:30 p.m in Heber Springs. The championship game is Saturday at 5 p.m.

Lonoke is also qualified for the Class 4A East Region tournament, which will also be played next week at Heber Springs.

In the win over Clinton, the Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Lonoke tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the second. Madison James walked. His courtesy runner, Essick Shephard, scored on a single by Zack Risner.

The Jackrabbits broke the game open with eight runs in the third. Scoring were Christian James, Blake Gooden, Guy Halbert, Madison James, Risner, Reid McKenzie and Garrett Spears.

The Jackrabbits scored nine runs in fourth. Scoring were Shane Pepper, Christan James, Gooden, Halbert, Madison James (twice), McKenzie and Spears. Madison James hit a grand slam in the inning.

Risner got the win, pitching the first three innings. He gave up two runs — one unearned — while striking out three. Mikey Shinn pitched the final two innings.

Pepper, Gooden, Madison James, McKenzie, Risner, Spears and Graves had two hits each.
