The Lonoke Lady Jackrabbits lost a heart-breaker to Stuttgart last week as the Lady Ricebirds scored in the bottom of the ninth to win 13-12 in 4A-2 conference play.

The score was tied 11-11 after seven innings. Both teams scored once in the eighth.

Per the international tie breaker rule, Lonoke’s Amanda Sexton started the eighth on second base. She went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Gracie Cole and scored on an error.

Stuttgart tied the game in similar fashion in the bottom of the eight.

Lonoke was retired in order with Madison McFadden on second base in the top of the ninth. The Lady Ricebirds then won the game in the bottom of the ninth.

Lonoke trailed 1-0 after the first inning then plated four runs in the top of the third to lead 4-1. Scoring were Jasalyn Truelove, Jessy Lewis, Jarrelyn McCall and Haylee Whitehurst.

Stuttgart tied the game at 4-4 with three runs in the bottom of the third. The Lady Ricebirds took a 5-4 lead in the fourth. Lonoke tied it at 5-5 with a run in the top of the sixth. Scoring was Candace James.

Stuttgart regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs to lead 10-5.

Lonoke came alive with six runs in the top of the seventh to lead 11-10. Scoring were Charley Jo Chesney, Truelove, Lewis, James, Cole and Brooke Jackson.

Stuttgart forced extra innings, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Lonoke had 13 hits in the game. Truelove, Lewis, McCall, James, Cole and Jackson had two hits each. Chesney had one.

Chesney struck out seven in 8 1/3 innings of work.
