HOT SPRINGS ó Lonoke, in the state championship game for the first time since 2008, lost its bid for the Class 4A state title on Thursday.
Brookland defeated the Jackrabbits, 60-50, in a game that saw Lonoke senior Blake Mack lead all scorers with 21 points in the loss and added 10 rebounds to make it a double-double.
Mack, who has signed to play football at Arkansas State, got Lonoke out of its third quarter doldrums with a monster dunk that ignited the student section but it wasnít enough as Brookland was able to maintain its lead.
After a semifinal game that saw Brookland only score 22 points in overtime, the Bearcats didnít have any trouble finding its offense as Chandler Thompson lead the way with 15 points and William Ballard added 10.
Mack was the only player for Lonoke (26-7) in double figures. Jamel Rankin was close with 9 and Darian Young had 7.
Lonoke was one of 13 from the 3-point line in the loss, while Brookland hit five of 10 from behind the arc.
Brookland won its 21st consecutive game and finishes the season 28-6.
