At its April 10 lunch meeting, the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce announced the winner of a recent raffle.

As a new fundraiser for the Chamber, members sold chances at a non-expiring life time hunting and fishing license for any Arkansas resident. The license is valued at $1,000. Guest speaker for the meeting, Kevin Sexton, drew the winner name of Doug Brewer during the meeting.

In other business, guest speaker and Senior Community Developer Kevin Sexton with the Arkansas Economic Development Commission spoke to chamber members about economic development.

“I love small towns,” Sexton said.

According to Sexton, some ways to be successful in job creation and growth are to have sites, buildings and property available, to have a workforce narrative, funding and an overall economic development organization. To improve new business attraction, Sexton said city’s need to have a marketing website, local incentives, a strategic plan targeting a specific area, and have a designated economic development contact.

Sexton agreed to work with the chamber and city on helping to restore its economic development initiative in the future.

Also during the meeting, Mayor Ray Glover announced the city’s spring clean up would be May 8-12.

The next regular scheduled chamber meeting will be at noon on May 8 in the Civic Center. Guest speaker will be High School counselor Andrea Fortner. Lunch will be provided to members for $10.
