The Carlisle Progressive Club met April 12 at the home of Margaret Ann Zimmerman. Charlene Lewis served as co-hostess, and Carolyn Flynn conducted the business meeting. The meeting was opened with the pledge of allegiance and the club collect. Sharolyn Sumner and Sue Young were assigned April book donations to the Carlisle Library. Ann Lenderman reported placing Easter Lilies at Chambers, and Carolyn Flynn read a letter from Open Arms Shelter thanking the club for their continued support. The club voted to send Brooklyn Daniels to Girls State, and to make a donation to the summer library program.
Speaker Debbye Harrison introduced the club to chromosomal telomeres, their impact on aging, and demonstrated a relaxation technique for keeping the mind and body healthy. After the program, hostesses served strawberry cake topped with fresh strawberries, coffee, and nuts.
The final meeting before summer break will be May 10. Members should be prepared to leave from the United Methodist Church parking lot at 10:30 a.m. After lunch at Charlotte’s Eats and Sweets in Keo, there will be a tour of Morris Antiques.
