The Carlisle School Board approved to purchase uniforms for the district spirit teams during its May 8 meeting. Terry McCallie, Bryan Oliger, C.J. Parker, Adam Ellis, Debbie Reid, Jereme Carter, Cliff Schafer and Superintendent Jason Clark were present for the meeting.

During the April board meeting, the board was approached with the suggestion of purchasing uniforms for the dance team and cheer squad, as done with most other district sports teams. Some of the questioning raised by the board was cost, how to offer a one size fits all option with fitted uniforms, how to define a uniform, if cost is keeping students from trying out and how to extend use of the uniforms. Assistant dance team sponsor Tammy Morgenstern and senior high cheer sponsor Lindsey Thaxton attended the meeting.

“It’s expensive, just like it is any other sport,” Thaxton said. “If you buy a uniform, you’re saving them about $250. I’m indifferent either way. “

Thaxton said while she can’t speak for the other spirit teams, the senior cheerleaders are given the opportunity to work off as much money as they would like to with fundraiser opportunities.

After additional discussion, the board unanimously voted to approved the purchase of 30 spirit team uniforms with $300 maximum per uniform, paid for through district funds.
