On Saturday, Aug. 5, students from Carlisle’s Olympic Style Taekwondo competed in the US Central Open Taekwondo Championships in Oklahoma City.


Head instructor Tabitha Turner said she had seven of her students compete in the championship tournament and they won five first place trophies, four second place trophies and five third place trophies.


Lucas Evans, 26, of Lonoke won second place in forms and third place in sparring. Kiya Miller, 13, of Cabot won first place in board breaking and third place in forms. Gage Hunt, 7, of Carlisle won first place in forms and second place in board breaking. Colton Burks, 9, of Carlisle won first place in board breaking and third place in forms. William Bogy, 9, of Carlisle won third place in both forms and board breaking. Jacoda Gray, 14, of Carlisle won first place in board breaking and second place in forms. Alicia Gray, 9, of Carlisle won first place in forms and second place in board breaking.


“I am so proud of all my students and the great support from of their parents,” Turner said.


According to Turner, Hunt and Gray both placed high enough in their forms divisions to compete in the Grand Championship round.
