The Arkansas Choral Society will perform portions of George Frideric Handel’s oratorio Messiah at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in the sanctuary at Calvary Baptist Church, 5700 Cantrell Road, Little Rock. A silent auction starts at 6:30 p.m.
Music Director Kent Skinner will conduct the Choral Society and members of the University of Arkansas at Monticello Chamber Chorus, musicians from the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and soloists Kelly Singer, soprano; Diana Salesky, alto; Drew Seigla, tenor; and Gregory Pearson, bass.
This year’s version of the oratorio will include most of the Christmas portion (Part I), plus selected arias, recitatives and choruses from Part II, including the “Hallelujah” and “Amen” choruses. The society, made up of amateur singers primarily from central Arkansas, regularly pairs with college and high school choruses and awarding scholarships to young choral singers. The group has presented the Messiah since 1930.
