The Lonoke City Council unanimously approved to renew contract for the 2018 Fishtown Farmers Market during its Monday night meeting.
During the public comment portion of the meeting, Trae and Ashely Reed, with Fishtown Farmers Market requested to renew their contract with the city for use of city property to host the farmers market. According the Trae Reed, this year’s vendors have increased from 12 to 18. He said they will also being adding additional dates for the markets calendar to include three Thursday markets and three holiday markets in addition to the first and third Saturday from May to September. The market will be located downtown near the train cars, right at Front and Center Street.
The Reeds also asked to place temporary PVC piping in the ground to house a sign on market days.
By unanimous vote, the council approve the agreement renewal for the market.
In other business, Lonoke Community Center Director Mike Brown challenged the council to a 90 day fitness challenge with fitness coach Austin Rowton. The fitness challenge “Dare to Be” will begin Jan. 15 at the community center. Cost is $15. Registration deadline is Jan. 22.
Also during the meeting, the board unanimously approved to:
-Pay Grace Communications Inc. $6,671.05 to relocate the fire department pager antenna back to the water tower now that the tower rehab project is complete
-Move forward with a contract with TechStream Internet Services
-Purchase signage posts for $2,354.25
-Authorize the invoice of $7,440.97 for a pump to be paid out of the 2003 water department depreciation fund
-Purchase three taser with holsters, battery packs and cartridges from Axon Enterprise Inc for $4,982.07
-Purchase eight treadmills from Second Chance Fitness for $55,871.29
-Authorize, by ordinance, to require independent candidates to file for city office no later than noon on the day before the preferential primary election.
-Table discussion of the property at 214 E. 11th street until the March council meeting
-Remove the property at 319 W. 3rd Street from the property watch list
-Table the remaining watch list property discussion until the next meeting.
-Send letters out for response at the Jan. 29 council meeting for properties being considered for condemnation, located at 217 Harrison,221 Vassar Lane, 719 S. Center Street and 319 Reynolds Street
-Bid out roof repairs to the former Dr. Holmes Clinic
The Lonoke City Council will have a special meeting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 29 for the 2018 budget approval and to discuss properties up for condemnation.
