Charlie Gastineau announced this week he’s running for Mayor of Ward.

Currently the city’s deputy operations manager and a former alderman said he was running, “bring positive, proactive leadership to the second largest city in Lonoke County.”

Ward has a population of 4,886 in the last Census with Lonoke right behind at 4,237.

An Air Force veteran, Gastineau also served on the city’s planning commission and was the Ward Chamber of Commerce’s Man of the Year in 2010 and then again in 2016.

“I believe the Mayor should be the advocate for the people of the city, ensuring open and honest communication,” he said in a release. “…Ward has growing pains like any other growing city; however, we lack businesses to support our growing needs. I will work with our Chamber of Commerce, regional partners, and neighboring cities to bring businesses to Ward.”

Gastineau, a graduate of John Brown University, and his wife Cathy have called Ward home for over 27 years. They have three grown children and four grandchildren. They are active members of Old Austin United Methodist Church.
