Arkansas State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened last week on Feb. 14.

In a press release issued by the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office, officer responded to an assist call by the Lonoke Police Department around 8:45 p.m. after an armed woman, identified as Janie Bryant, 62, fired shots towards a residence across the street from her home in the 400 block of East Holly Street and then barricaded herself inside her residence.

Deputies soon requested the assistance of the Lonoke County Special Response Team, in order to assist in removing Bryant from her home. As the Sheriff’s Office team attempted to make entry into the home, Bryant reportedly fired a weapon at several times at the officers, who then returned fire and wounded Bryant.

City officers reported Bryant was armed with a handgun inside the residence.

Upon arrival to the scene, shots were fired at deputies who returned fire, injuring Bryant.

Bryant was taken to a Little Rock hospital where she is reported to be in stable condition.

The Sheriff’s Office has asked the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division to conduct an investigation into the use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer. When the State Police complete their investigation, it will be sent to the Lonoke County prosecuting attorney to be reviewed for possible charges.
