New Hearts Ministries of Arkansas hoping to be a part of the drug epidemic solution in Lonoke County and help women find freedom from addition. According to the 2017 Arkansas Crime Information Center website, 428 drug arrest were made in Lonoke County but 654 arrests were made for drug related crimes.

New Hearts Ministries of Arkansas executive director Tena Hauk said that those numbers do not account for the number of those on probation, parole or incarcerated for drugs or drug related crimes. She said according to the Arkansas Epidemiological State Profile for 2015, Lonoke County was the third highest of youth illicit drug use. From working in the past, for 15 years with the Arkansas Department of Corrections, she said 75 percent of those incarcerated were due to drugs.

“We are hoping to be a part of the solution with the drug issues in Lonoke County,” Hauk said. “The evening will consist of two women of Lonoke County that are graduates of the Harbor Home in Conway that are from Lonoke County to give testimonies of what a faith based recovery home has done for them and their family. Dr. Larry Pillow of We Can Ministries will be one of the guest speakers”

In addition, Hauk said the announcement of the opening of the first recovery home for women in Lonoke County will also be made. She said Pastor Bob Courson of Caney Creek Baptist Church south Lonoke will discuss the donation of the property to the New Hearts Ministries.

“This has been a vision of eight years and to have this coming to pass is a very exciting and humbling thing,” Hauk said. ” This is a total God thing and … this adventure is will takes a village and not a individual thing.”

New Hearts of Arkansas was founded in December 2012 by Hauk. The mission of the ministry is to help to hurting women in addiction and those in jails and prisons. New Heart Ministries focuses on the helping women to become women of God and Character.
