The Arkansas Blood Institute will hold a blood drive with First State Bank in Lonoke this Friday, Aug. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donors, who need to meet certain age and weight requirements, will receive a limited edition “Adventure” t-shirt, and a voucher for free admission for one to the Little Rock Zoo.

“This summer has been a particularly challenging time for blood collections, and we are in need of generous donors to be heroes for local patients,” said Dr. John Armitage, president and CEO of Arkansas Blood Institute. “It only takes about an hour to donate, but the gift of blood is priceless for those who depend on it.”

Arkansas Blood Institute is proud to partner once again with the Little Rock Zoo. Since 1926, the Little Rock Zoo has been connecting Arkansans with nature, learning and conservation. The Little Rock Zoo features nearly 700 animals representing more than 200 species, many on the endangered list, including Trudy the Gorilla. The Zoo is one of Arkansas’ greatest educational and conservation resources.

Donors also receive free health screenings. If they opt not to take the t-shirt, Arkansas Blood Institute will make a monetary donation to Global Blood Fund for blood center assistance in developing countries.

Appointments are not required but can be made by calling Arkansas Blood Institute at 877-340-8777 or visiting arkbi.org.
