Ewell Doerr Jr., known to friends as David or JR, died peacefully at his home in Altamonte Springs, Fla., on May 31, 2017 at the age of 86.
Ewell is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 58 years and their sons, David M. Doerr of Debary, Fla., Charles Stephen Doerr of Wesley Chapel, Fla., daughter-in-law Laura Ruth Doerr, also of Wesley Chapel, and sister, Frances Anne Price, of Stuart, Fla. He was devoted to his grandchildren,
Margaret Elizabeth Robinson of Atlanta, Nathan W. Doerr of Windermere, Fla., Megan Margaret and Zachary Owen Doerr of Wesley Chapel, Fla.
Ewell was born on August 28, 1931 in Humboldt, Tenn to Ewell Doerr and Mae Freeman Doerr and raised in Cabot. After attending college in Little Rock and serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, Ewell spent 39 years in the Sales Division of American Brands, living in the southern and northeastern parts of the country before settling in Florida in 1978 and retiring in 1990. His family remembers him as a father and grandfather who encouraged them to pursue their interests and goals. Ewell was an accomplished golfer and enjoyed fresh water fishing.
A memorial service in Cabot has yet to be scheduled.
