Wanda Lee Gunter of Panama, Okla., age 87, went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2018.
She was born on Nov. 30, 1930 in Buck Creek, Okla. to Robert and Della (Merchant) Pierce. On Dec. 17, 1947, Wanda Pierce married Deward Glendon Gunter. Wanda shared in ministry with Deward for the majority of their adult lives. During their many years of ministry, Wanda and Deward pastored churches in Kansas, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. They eventually settled in Panama, Okla. but continued to serve in various areas of ministry.
Wanda enjoyed feeding birds, going on drives through the mountains to see wildlife, singing and playing the piano, cooking, fellowship with others, and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Gunter is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Deward Gunter, her parents, Robert and Della Pierce, and her siblings: Jack Walker, Albert Harris, Johnny Pierce, and Lewis Pierce. Family members surviving Mrs. Gunter are her children: Glenda and Gary Longan of Miami, Okla. and G. Keith and Deanna Gunter of Elk City, Okla.; grandchildren: Michael Longan, Jessika and Eric Davis, Gabriel Gunter, Morgan Wagner, Bryce Sandstoe, Jakob Gunter, and Mazie Wagner, great-grandchildren Romyn and Roper Sandstoe, as well as a host of nephews and nieces and extended family.
Services were held July 5 at Victory Worship Center in Spiro, Okla., with Rev. Bryan Fouts officiating. Interment followed at Shady Point Cemetery in Shady Point, Okla. Mrs. Gunter’s grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers. The family has asked in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to The Gideons International or your favorite missionary. Funeral services will be under the care of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home from Wetumka, Okla.
