The Arkansas Farm Bureau 78th annual convention, will be Nov. 28-30 at the Hot Springs Convention Center. Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe, state Secretary of Agriculture Butch Calhoun, Arkansas Farm Bureau President Randy Veach, motivational speaker LaDonna Gatlin and agricultural economist John Anderson are among the speakers for the convention.
Sessions will cover topics such as the 2012 drought, federal farm policy, the Arkansas General Assembly, food safety issues, farm credit availability, and the state water plan.
Moderated discussions covering environmental issues, rural health topics, public policy items, and private property rights concerns will be held.
Commodity conferences in poultry, rice, timber, cotton, beef, soybeans, dairy, equine, wheat and feed grains also are scheduled.
Winners in the Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher competitions — the Discussion Meet, and Excellence in Ag and Achievement awards will be presented.
The top county Farm Bureau women’s program and Sew with Cotton contest winners will be named, and the organization will honor the Ag in the Classroom Teacher of the Year.
The Stanley E. Reed Leadership Award will also be presented.
